Overview
The Queen Mary University of London is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom, and a constituent college of the federal University of London. With roots dating back to the founding of the London Hospital Medical College in 1785, Queen Mary was formed by the merger of four historic colleges, and since joining the University of London in 1915 has grown to become one of its largest colleges. It is named after Mary of Teck, Queen of the United Kingdom. Queen Mary is a global university, it has 5 campuses in the heart of London and also internationally in China, Malta, and Paris.
University has a remarkably higher number of students such as 17,000 full-time students coupled with 4,000 staff added with its annual turnover of £350 million – from the heads of research grants and contracts. Queen Mary is organized into three faculties – the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Engineering and Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry – within which there are 21 academic departments and institutes. Queen Mary is ranked in the top 10 for subjects including Medicine (surpassing King’s College London), with some of these ranked equal to University College London and Oxford University.

Queen Mary is awarded over £3 million for astronomy research. The School of Physics and Astronomy has received funding from the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), part of UK Research and Innovation, to buttress new research projects.
Queen Mary is a leading European project to tackle plastic pollution. The project costs €14m involving significant partners across the UK and France to prevent plastic hotspots in the Channel.

New medical research center: Queen Mary has established Organs-on-Chips Centre for advancements in medical research and drug development by utilizing micro-engineered Organs-on-Chips.
Student Support
Regents Canal is the student village at Mile End filled with facilities include contemporary accommodation, a shop, a launderette, cafés, a bar and a Santander bank branch with the blend of greenery. Most of the sports activities are organized by students union alongside the Mile End. Furthermore, state-of-the-art health and fitness center is built so that students can easily balance their academic studies with a healthy lifestyle. The gym includes a ladies-only gym, two studios, a squash court, and a large sports hall.
Advisors have been provided to each student so they can express their personal and academic issues with the advisors. Students are not just only guided by the advisors only, they are facilitated by The Academic Registry and Council Secretariat (ARCS) which provides academic-related information such as student records (MySIS), finances, exam dates and results, official documents and letters, immigration, discounted travel, bursaries, grants, scholarships, etc. University takes care of students’ emotional and mental health. They support for students with disabilities and learning difficulties (eg dyslexia and dyspraxia) is offered by the Disability and Dyslexia Service

Ranking
According to QS World Ranking 2020, the university is ranked 126th worldwide, while Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 placed Queen Mary 110th in the world. Academic Ranking of World Universities 2019 ranks Queen Mary between 151–200th across the globe. According to QS subject ranking 2018, it’s English, Drama and Law are ranked in the top 50 in the world. There are five Nobel Laureates amongst Queen Mary’s alumni and current and former staff. It is ranked 5th in the UK for the percentage of research outputs positioned at 3rd and 4th (REF 2014).
Queen Mary is a member of the Russell Group of research-led universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and Universities UK; it was a member of the 1994 Group from 2006 to 2012. Queen Mary is a major center for medical teaching and research and is part of UCL Partners, the world’s largest academic health science center.
It has a strategic partnership with the University of Warwick, including research collaboration and joint teaching of English, history, and computer science undergraduates. In 2014, Queen Mary was ranked 9th among UK universities in Research Excellence Framework. It scores consistently highly in other global league tables and was in The Sunday Times’ it has been ranked 6th best UK University for student employability with the second-highest UK graduate initial salary.
