Cleveland state university is a public research institution that was established in 1964. Initially, it started as fenn college in 1929. It significantly contributed to providing internships for students in engineering and business departments. These internships worked as joint ventures between the college and local businesses and industries, provided students with professional contacts and experience as well as an affordable education.

Currently, it has 17,000-plus students and over 175 academic programs. The university offers over 1,000 courses support 200 major fields of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as professional certificate and continuing education programs.

Student facilities
The university provides various facilities such as; student government association, student bar association, campus activities board, student-run radio station (wcsb-fm), three student newspapers (the cleveland stater, the cauldron and the vindicator), the gavel law school publication, four fraternities, four sororities and approximately 200 student honorary, professional, cultural and social organizations.

Csu has strong ties with cleveland through a series of forward-thinking partnerships. Campus international school and mc2stem high school provide pathways to college for young people, by way of the education park that csu has established with the cleveland metropolitan school district.
